CLEANING VAAZHI POO

This is a tedious process i must say.. time consuming also.. so if u want to prepare it in the morning better make the flower ready by the previous night .. take the flowers out from the outer cover , and two things have to be removed , i have shown it in the picture.. the reson for removing it is that it wont get digested and will cause stomach ache.. Remove as far as u can and the inner core of the flower can be used as such, Better ask your elders for this cleaning procedure..

METHOD

Place a kadai on the stove , add 1 tbsp of oil, heat it, add cleaned Vaazhi poo and saute it for 2 to 3 mins in medium flame..stir it continuosly as it will stick to the bottom if left unstirred ..

Once it get shrinked to half as the original then turn off the stove and let it cool..Place a kadai or pan on the stove. I have used clay pot, it gives great flavour .. Add the remaining oil and tamper it with fenugreek seeds , let it splutter with wonderful aroma, flame should be medium as fenugreek can burnt easily.. once it splutters add small onions, garlic, chillies, curry leaves and saute it for 2 mins

Add in the chopped tomato and saute it until the tomato is fully cooked and turns mushy.. Add turmeric powder, kuzhambu milagai powder, salt and saute for 30 secs in low flame.. add in the tamarind extract and bring it to boil..let it boil for 5 to 7 mins. the raw smell of tamarind and masalas will be gone and you can get the delicious aroma..

At this stage add in the sauted banana flower into the claypot and adjust salt and spice..

The next step is optional.. if u want to leave your kuzhambu with out coconut paste u can hve aas it is at this stage.. but if u like coconut taste u can add 1/4 cup of coconut paste and let it boil for 2 mins and then switch of the stove ..

Thats it your vaazhi poo kara kuzhambu is ready.. serve it hot with white rice.. u can have potato fry or simply fry some appalam or vadaham to go with this .. do try this one and give your feed back through comments.. Until next post Veni here saying tata bye bye , take care .. Happy cooking !!!
