VALLARI KEERAI CHUTNEY

  Vallarai is Tamil name for the Mooligai Brahmi (Herbal Brahmi). From the ancient period Vallarai or Brahmi is used in the traditional Indian medicine that is Ayurvedice. Vallarai keerai benefits are more and it is identified in Tamil Maruthuvam/treatments to cure many types of health treatments like to regulate blood circulation, regulate the smooth functioning of liver, lungs and kidney. In many cases brahmi is also used in curing skin problems like Eczema, abscess and ulceration etc Vallarai Keerai benefits. Vallarai is considered as a natural Brain Tonic.
  
Exam season is on and let us boost our children's memory with the vallari keerai chutney twice a week and help them remember their lessons and perform their best..
  
In most of my chutney recipes i use less coconut and instead i add small onions (shallots) because of calorie consiousness.. plus small onions have many health benefits like they increase immunity, reduces cholesterol etc.. 

INGREDIENTS

Vallarai keerai - 1cup 
Small onion - 1 cup
Dry red chillies - 4 to 5 
channa dal - 1 tbsp
cumin - 1 tsp
coriander seeds - 1tsp
Black pepper - 3 nos 
Coconut - 2 tsp
curry leaves - 2 strips
Tamarind - big gooseberry size (soaked)
 Oil - 4 tbsp

METHOD



Add 2 tbsps of oil in a kadai,arrange small onions,channa dal, dry red chilles, curry leaves, cumin, coriander seeds,as shown above. Saute until onion is cooked well and then add coconut and tamarind ,give it a mix and transfer these contents into a mixer grinder. In the same kadai add the remaining oil and add in the vallarai keerai and saute them for 5 to 10 mins until the keerai is reduced to 1/4 th and roasted.



  
Transfer keerai also into the mixer and grind into a coarse chutney.. Serve with rice.. If you are packing for lunch box add 1 tsp of ghee it will enhance the flavour and will be loved by kids.
